The main part of the log deals with the voyages of HMS Constance under the command of F.P.Doughty, all in MANUSCRIPT, neatly and expertly kept journal with many hand drawn maps and charts. Many interesting places on the routes, San Francisco to Honolulu with excellent chart of JUAN DE FUCA Straits and HONOLULU HARBOUR. Then from Hawaii to Washington Island, Fanning Island, PENRYHN, Society islands and south to Tahiti, again with an excellent chart of the route followed and dates noted.

Small survey made of AVARURA OF RAROTONGO, list of DEVIATION TABLE, then large map of Track from RAROTONGO to COQUIMBO in Chili. North to CALLAO and PAYTA with chart, plus chart of the anchorage of SAN LORENZO, two further charts of western coast South America. April 1885 north from CALLAO to ACAPULCO with chart of route, continuing on to MAGDALENA in lower California, chart. MAGDALENA to San Francisco continuing to ESQUIMALT the eastern Pacific station for the British Squadron, again with chart.

Excellent detailed chart shows ROYAL BAY and town of VICTORIA, plus Constance Cove where the ships were moored. Two Interesting detailed diagrams of BODY PLAN OF TORPEDO BOAT. Plans of a BOAT SLIP complete with four full pages of details on the building and LIST OF MATERIALS used, costs and labour expenses. October 1885 returned to ACAPULCO onto PANAMA, two charts, plus full page descriptions on DIMENSIONS OF SPARS, DIMENSIONS OF SAILS. Two small charts cover from ACAPULCO to HONOLULU and HONOLULU to HONG KONG, where the crew joined the Orontes for passage to England via Singapore, Aden, Suez Canal and Malta. Here they joined the vessel Jumna to Gibraltar and Portsmouth where they then quartered on the Duke of Wellington.

Most of the log in excellent condition, last few pages slightly affected by damp but not too adverse. Unlike many logs that give only the barest detail, this gives a wealth of information on the daily routine, weather and special events. All LOGS are RARE as mostly they were 'handed-in' on return to port and sent to the Greenwich Museum in London.
